A recent publication at EL PAIS (follow the link to the original article) talks about why Spain has become an ideal academic destination for Central and South American students. Apart from sharing the same language, other reasons apply:

  • The more and more specialized curriculum in Spanish Universities
  • Spain is a bridge for Europe
  • High tech colleges campuses and easy access to digital information and resources
  • Safe cities
  • Possibility of studying in English and living in Spanish
  • Closeness to European tourism
  • Cheaper academic fares than in other countries
  • Cultural reasons: coming back to the land of your ancestors…

To this list I would add that Spain is, despite its prevalent touristic identity, still a “true” country. Where students can get immersed into the everyday life and learn from direct experiences. A highly traditional country that at the same time keeps a modern mood.
